Field research: Dalmatia and Northern Adriatic region

Comments Off on Field research: Dalmatia and Northern Adriatic region

In order to overcome the difficulties caused by the current COVID situation, the participants of the GLOHUM project have adapted to the special circumstances and conducted a series of field research campaigns in May and June 2020, while concentrating on how to minimize the number of people directly involved. The research teams have effectively covered a vast area of the Eastern Adriatic region, while concentrating on their specific research topics related to the project’s objectives.

The areas where the researches were conducted include Central and Southern Dalmatia (coastal parts around Split, Solin and Šibenik, Hvar and Korčula islands, Dalmatian hinterland – Cetina valley, Biskupija around Knin, Ravni kotari), Quarnero region (Cres, Lošinj) and Istrian peninsula. The work included the survey of both urban and rural areas, landscape topography, survey of archaeological sites, aerial survey, recording of architectural monuments, cataloging sculpture, work in the archives, museums and lapidaries, and a number of meetings with representatives of institutions and stakeholders related to the heritage research and management process. The fieldwork was also a perfect opportunity to test and fully implement the new equipment for scientific research acquired through the GLOHUM project funding.
